Artist Statement

creating spaces, points of interaction, observational drawings and listening : practicing within the framework of philosophy, ecology and art – responding to that which is most pressing

The Contract, observational drawing, selected for exhibition at Herbert Art Gallery 2020;  becoming a series of ‘drawings’ – seeds also sown in Lockdown

Entrance - (site-specific commission for art2000) - projection of light and sound cascading over the central axis of Portsmouth Cathedral, inspired by the surrounding waterways, the unusual position of the baptismal font, and a history of metaphysical symbolism and realism.

Postgrad studies MA Interactive Media & Cultural Theory at Goldsmiths College (AHRC), concerned the virtual, the real, seduction, biotechnology, wearable technology, cybernetics, anthropology and philosophy; in particular, Natural and Social Contracts.

Fine Art undergrad explorations included an emergence of the digital alongside analogue processes including; sculpture, drawing, animation, photography, installation, time-based media including cine film, video, sound and projection. Materials included film, speakers, screens & projectors, creating loosely figurative experiences. Thematically exploring a Desire for Control, consumerism and object relations; practice moved closer to the illuminated, smooth surfaces with which we are ever more discretely drawn.

The Virtual Rosary [VR] became a transformation from object (constructed of beads, Mariolatry pendants and Pill packaging) to digital artwork; it had always been an exploration of interaction, sound and narrative.

Following a successful degree show, with support from The Ray Finnis Charitable Trust, Down The Rabbit Hole was developed in collaboration with Chandalay Quor (providing the enigmatic soundtrack, Bleed ). Selected for screenings in Brighton’s Cinematheque, Fringe Festival & Manchester Film Festival, this work became part of a series of installations with related objects, including group Shop Window exhibitions with Urban Romantics.
