    Biography

Denise Bryan works across media, making objects, photographic series, installations and performance pieces. Her studio increasingly resembles a Scrap Store, Bryan can't stop collecting things that have the potential to become objects; sculptures that have been described as "Hands on Conceptualism". The materials used to create these sculptures always have a conceptual value that underpins the work, but are also exploited for their visual qualities, colour and form. Once created, the artist explores the relationship between the sculptural forms and photographic or, video image and sound. Recently, this has also included on exploration of the drawn line. Using combinations of these elements, Bryan is interested in creating new spatial dynamics. As the collections, including the sound and lens based components, are usually collected whilst travelling, the works act as a narrative of personal experience, and in a broader sense the pieces interrogate our relationship to the exotic. But the joy of re shaping space is at the core of the work.
