She re-trained as an artist in 2001, combining performance with other media to re-represent domestic and caring experiences. Before completing her MA (2003), she created Double Void (2001), an installation, film and performance with Newlyn Art Gallery, and as co-curator of Art Surgery created site-specific performance projects including Arts Council funded A Sense of Place (1998) and TRACT (2006). She produced video performance works that were shown around the UK and Europe (On the Margin, 2004). In 2007, Tate St Ives commissioned a performance work Miss-Readings. Developing a studio practice based around being a working single mother, that included using painting with dripped bitumen paint as metaphor for women and change (Liquid Selves, 2011), and small assemblage sculpture with text (Objets-Textes, 2009).
Delpha Hudson's inter-disciplinary arts practice spans many different projects including curation and events for the Hypatia Trust, an organisation that promotes and support women artists.
