Biography

I have been making constructed forms from willow, fibre and metal using innovative techniques for over 20 years. My work ranges in scale from small domestic pieces to large installations, and recently I have begun using enamel. I collaborated with the architect Nick Childs on the Pavilion Building on the Harbourside in Bristol. Other public commissions have included the making of Labelled for Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery, a site specific work addressing issues of conservation and species diversity, and the importance of museum collections. Although varied in form and material my main themes have been constant, namely line and depth, light and shadow. I have exhibited widely in Britain, Sweden, Japan and the USA. Public collections include the Crafts Council Collection; Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery; Castle Museum, Norwich; Somerset County Museum; Bankfield Museum, Halifax; Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge; Doncaster Museum & Art Gallery; Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool; Worcester Museum & Art Gallery; New Ruskin Gallery, Sheffield; Plymouth City Museum & Art Gallery; and in the United States, Racine Art Museum, Wisconsin, and the Museum of Arts & Design, New York. I have also lectured and taught in Britain, Sweden and the United States, often basing workshops on the theme of mapping, an interest which stems from my degree in Geography. I am a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.
