    Artist Statement

Cliff Crawford grew-up in the north-east of England studied and taught in the Midlands and now lives in Bexhill. Best described as an enthusiast with an inquiring nature, Cliff gains his artistic inspiration from the varied environments of the south coast.

Cliff is fascinated by process and uses both traditional and digital media to explore real and perceptual change through repetition, re-evaluation and reduction. Observation is central to his work and he uses repeating images to look again at what may have been overlooked to produce overlapping layers of interpretation and dialogue creating a visual narrative.

Having both a Bachelors Degree in Fine Art and a Masters of Science in Information Technology, he experiences in his work the tension and synchronicity of these divergent disciplines.

    CV & Education

I grew up in the north-east of England, studied and taught in the Midlands and now lives in Bexhill. Best described as an enthusiast with an inquiring nature, I am fascinated by process and use both traditional and digital media to explore real and perceptual change through repetition, re-evaluation and reduction. Observation is central to my work and I use repeating images to look again at what may have been overlooked to produce layers of dialogue creating a visual narrative. With a BA in Fine Art and an MSc in IT, I experience in my work the tension and synchronicity of these divergent disciplines.

In 2019 I am participating in System Change HIVE, an opportunity for artists and creative coders in Sussex to participate in an exciting pilot project funded by the Arts Council of England. Hosted at the University of Brighton’s School of Media and at the virtual reality lab of Wired Sussex/Fusebox, the System Change Hive is an interdisciplinary creative engine room exploring alternative socio-economic futures and life in the zero-carbon economy.
