I am sitting on a log in the Spring sunshine and trying to focus on my tasks but I pick chives instead. Their smell and the feel of the green in my hands gives me a sense of happiness that aids my creativity. I unroll microphone leads, test SD cards, making odd recordings that meander in and out of real and fantasy, I load images onto a USB stick and try them on a DVD player. It all works! On Saturday I am doing some recording in a stone turret with a friend playing cello at one level and me playing clarinet on another. It is a response to the space and eventually to each other rather than playing music. I hope to further my research into the shape of sound. I don’t know how it will turn out using instruments, I usually just use voice but the resonances will be fascinating. Just hope I can record them sufficiently with the equipment I have.

My other project, which is what the images are for, is on the theme of House for H-M-S at Platforms, Athens. Called Territory, it looks at the relationship of house to home, to shelter and safety asking where does house/home begin and end when home may be a doorway or tent?. It interweaves spoken word and images to present a potentially disturbing view of the current global situation of placement and displacement. I think I will find this difficult but it will teach me a lot and push me into a new way of thinking. Sometimes, though, I wish I did things the easy way!
