Biography

I have painted and made things since I was a child. As soon as I could walk I was off on an adventure to find some peace and quiet to get on with the business of finding things to create pictures with.

I remember excitedly running out into the school playground, just so that I could draw shapes into the gravelled tarmac area, where a discarded brick would become the starting point of a masterpiece!

For me, being an 'Artist' or creating 'Art' is not a career choice nor is it always about producing pretty, pleasing images, using the same technique and formulae over and over again.

I don't follow a style or copy one and I don't have a singular message to convey. What my work is, is a sincere attempt at understanding and responding to the world around me, with all its complexities and contradictions.

It is true that when you reach a certain age, as you experience the death of friends and family, your thoughts turn to your own mortality, your footprint in the world, your legacy. Using the materials that I am surrounded by; Sweet wrappers, plastic bottles, shredded paper, cardboard and old material, which would otherwise become landfill,I hope to create something fluid, spontaneous but also gentle and contemplative.

My current body of work involves revisiting and reworking old, previous forgotten, unfinished or discarded paintings. In this way, as a creator, consumer and critic, these works form part of my own mindfulness, my personal journey and that legacy.
