Microscopy of the Union Flag
17th January 2020 - 14th March 2020Location: Old Fire Station, Oxford
Microscopy of the Union Flag, the latest body of work by Chris Oakley, is a forensic visual examination of the Union Jack. Utilising progressively greater magnification, the exhibition is an exploration of physical aspects of the national flag intended as reflection on the crisis of national identity in which Britain currently finds itself. Using extreme macro photographic and microphotographic techniques, the work offers a literal parallel to the frantic introspection of a country seeking a definition of itself.
