Painter working in London, responding to her local environments ( cityscape as well as landscape) , accepting Commissions to respond to a particular place over a long period of time
Concepts The work pursues an ongoing exploration of the complexity and multiplicity of any one given moment in time and expresses personal responses to places/landscapes/relationships as well as to the transience of life.These are presented as fluid and airy images anchored through the use of colour, form, line, pattern and texture. 'Actual' observations are transmuted and rearranged into paintings and collages which form an abstract pictorial language of atmosphere and depth, with a satisfying overall surface interest. Influences Art of the 30's and 40's (Nash, Sutherland, Heron, Agar, Clough, Frankenthaler, Matisse, Braque, Picasso). Personal life influences: childhood, motherhood, bereavement, travel, nature and celebration of life. Career path Studied Fine Art in London (Byam Shaw) 1968-72. Lived and worked in Italy, France and Scotland between 1972-81, London and New York between1981-87. Based in London since 1987, exhibiting regularly in both solo & group shows, as well as opening her London studio. Throughout 2005-06 carried out a large project (a wallpiece in 12 panels, 192 gouaches in all) called “Focussing - In: a Year in Kew Gardens”, exhibited in 2007 at the Curwen Gallery, London, and later sold to a private collector. Work is held in many private and corporate collections in UK, USA, Hong Kong, and Europe both, from banks, businesses to hospitals. Ran Art workshops for children in London schools and at her studio 1992-2002. Has illustrated several books, and was commissioned by the Royal Parks, London to design a Deck Chair in 2008. Currently actively researching for future projects with references to the Natural World, in which to continue her explorations of its cellular make up, as well as research plant forms, gardens, landscape etc. A project commissioned by the Oxford Botanical Gardens, with visits throughout 2012 resulting with an exhibition in situ during the Spring of 2013, including some aspects relevant to their ongoing educational focus. Commissioned to respoind to Highgreen Manor in Northumberland 2014-15, reuslting in an exhibition there in 2016. Since then has worked on several series- some reflecting the light industrial urban area of her studio (NW10) and the most recent series: Memento Mori, reflecting on the transcienc of life inspired by visits to cemeteries in the South of France. Elected an Associate Member of the RWS in 2018.
