Wall composition; No.1, Cille Bhrìghde
2012 - 2013The piece, Wall composition No.1, Cille Bhrìghde is inspired by Brigid, the namesake of Kilbride.
St.Brigid was associated with weaving and with certain plants; soft rush, birch, dandelion and bog cotton. There was also a tradition of leaving out a piece of material on St.Bride's eve in the belief that she would pass by overnight and bless it. This was then known as a 'Bhrat Bhride' and used throughout the year. I have made a series of pieces which take these ideas as inspiration.
