Carmen Billows is a London-based independent curator, specialising in film and video. She studied Cultural Studies, Aesthetics & Art History at Universität Bremen, Germany and Université Paris 8, Vincennes, France as well as Curating Contemporary Art at the Royal College of Art in London, UK
She has been working internationally for art galleries and museums such as Künstlerhaus Bremen, Bremen, Kunstfabrik am Flutgraben, Berlin, Palais de Tokyo, Paris and Artists Space, New York, USA. She has curated and co-curated various exhibitions and film screenings including a film programme at Lux/ICA Biennial of Moving Image in London, 2012, a major solo show with London-based filmmaker John Smith, 2010 and the Video Art Section at Asian Hot Shots Berlin, 2008. A special research interest lies in expanded cinema, video performance and performative modes of film production and presentation. Her recent curatorial practice aims to integrate film and video into an interdisciplinary art gallery as well as site-specific context, in film screenings and installations.
