Stuff. What's it doing. where's it going, where's it been? My work explores the materiality of how we communicate today. It suggests the impermanence of the elements we machine at ever greater speed, with all the corresponding redundancies and waste that go with that. Some works invite tactile involvement from people, who physically connect a circuit with each other as they pass it on.
My concern with the physicality of communication between people, material and objects has particular focus on the hidden infrastructure, events and implications of how we interact. I use salvaged materials to visualise these interactions, as interventions in their life-cycle, with a broader reference to the natural world and our legacy within it.
I gained my MA in Fine Art from Camberwell and Chelsea, and graduated with a distinction in Fine Art from Brighton University.
I completed a month's residency in Beijing with Red Mansion Prize. The subsequent exhibition was in London in March 2015.
I was elected as a member of The London Group in 2016
‘Tea Table’ won second in the Jerwood Drawing Prize 2010, and I was selected by Ceri Hand for the Creekside Open 2013 , APT Gallery, London. I was long listed for Saatchi Gallery New Sensations 2013. Recent exhibitions include Refraction at Boxpark, London, Ides of March at Spacestation Sixty-Five, London, Meanwhile at John Hansard Gallery, Southampton, Bend Over Shirley at Beaconsfield Contemporary, London, and A Machine for Living in at Hannah Barry, London. I was invited for a residency and solo show at Grey Area Gallery, Brighton, 2012. I was selected for a group residency at Joya arte: + ecologica, Spain, 2012, and a Cape Farewell expedition in London, 2011.
