Biography

My current research is concerned with how the localism of the UK's Coalition government translates from policy document and legislation into everyday practice and experience. Specifically, I am interested in exploring examples of community-based organisations managing public assets (namely museums and art galleries) and deducing the various motivations (ideological, pragmatic) of the individuals and organisations involved. This is motivated by a personal interest in the multiple roles being carved out for the publicly funded cultural sector, the growing focus on individuals taking responsibility for public service delivery, the focus on participation in public policy since the 1980s and the theoretical and political assumptions that underpin these agendas. My current research is funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and supervised by Andrew Newman and Areti Galani in the International Centre for Cultural and Heritage Studies at Newcastle University.
