Artist Statement

My multidisciplinary practice encompasses installation, moving image, print and publishing. My primary tool is 3D visualisation software, which I use to create images, textures, animations and bodies. These digital entities then migrate off the screen and manifest as tactile objects and audio-visual environments.

My work is an attempt to analyse and creatively interpret some of the ways in which ‘digital life’ complicates the boundaries between the technological and biological and how it renders, replicates, accelerates, binds and fractures images and bodies. What continuing roles do embodiment and materiality have to play in immaterial, digital realms? What freedoms do digital processes and tools offer and what kinds of acute anxieties do they engender?

Alongside my practice, I am a researcher at the University of Leeds in the Faculty of Fine Art, History of Art and Cultural Studies, where I also teach in the UG studio. I received a BA in Fine Art from The Glasgow School of Art in 2011 and an MA in Media Art and Design from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar (DE) in 2015 (funded by the DAAD). I co-founded the artist-led Vitrine Gallery in Weimar in 2014 and established the AV platform, Poor Image Projects, alongside artist Anya Stewart-Maggs in 2018.
