Artist Statement

Anna Luisa Dionello is an Italian artist who lives and works in London. She studied at the Academy of Fine Art in Venice and at Central St. Martins College of Art & Design in London. Currently she makes paper works which explore the concept of loss as a regular presence in human life. All that man possesses is temporary. Objects fall apart or get lost, people pass away, memories vanish and life itself comes to an end. What does not seem ephemeral to Anna Luisa Dionello is the sense of loss she perceives incessantly. In her works, pathos flows through the conflict between the need to regain what is lost and the frustration at not achieving it. Her artistic practice is focused on man's awareness of his limits. She is urged to make visible what she calls 'the art of surviving'. She is very often inspired by her early morning visions. In fact, many of her works come straight from the intangible territory that lies in between sleep and wake.
