Artist Statement

I make artwork using a combination of materials and methods. Work and ideas develop iteratively from piece to piece. I begin with creating images and objects, often working in an analogous way in terms of processes and an approach to making. My work can often suggest and hint to a number of themes and ideas and often has in consideration space, light, form and colour.  The work manifests itself into drawing, installation and photography- mostly film, but also digital.

I am drawn to the nature of in-between spaces that we increasingly inhabit, be they architectural- of the domestic, city or landscape- the virtual, or atmospheric and how our perception of such spaces increasingly affects our experience of the world. I am interested in the certain strangeness that can be evoked through the placement of objects in spaces, whether these are found objects or made by myself.

Images can seem one thing and another, and can be the opposite to one thing or another and can often exist somewhere between imagery and sculpture. Objects are layered physically, but also inherently; layers of fabric, or images of a layered landscape are equally woven with ideas and narratives. The resulting work sits in an ambiguous space, it/we, cropped at an unnerving viewpoint that could instill a suspended clarity or understanding.
