Alongside my exhibition “In Parallel and Entwined” at the Hive in Shrewsbury, I led a workshop event on 23rd May. The workshop gave some insight to the methods and inspiration behind my exhibition. I encouraged new ways of looking and spontaneity in putting ideas together.

After an initial discussion in the Gallery at 5.30pm participants set out into a wonderful warm Summer's evening. The walk followed an algorithm devised on the day using input from participants, such that no one, including myself, knew the route or destination in advance. The walk lasted for around 30 minutes, at a fairly brisk pace, allowing participants to concentrate on their sensory experiences in the moment.

The walk ended between a public car park and the River Severn, where may-flies danced in the low sunlight. Materials were gathered for artworks, including found objects, sketches, rubbings, tracings and photos. On returning to the Gallery, participants created small mixed media installations for display as part of the exhibition.

It was fascinating to see how observations and experiences manifested in the artworks with a mix common overlaps and novel insights, illustrating how our personal "maps" of the world intermingle.
