Andre Wallace has completed many large-scale commissions throughout the UK and abroad for outdoor sites. This range of work is made in response to briefs requiring landmark sculptures that animate and create focal and meeting points within the urban or natural environments.
The Studio and Outdoor work is about exploring themes of transformation, change and the passage of time. The human figure remains the vehicle used to explore these themes. Figures are often encapsulated in vessels, suggesting a journey, arrival, departure or rite of passage.
The materials he uses are suggestive of different states – the heaviness, solidity and permanence of iron, bronze and stone to the translucence and ethereal values of resins. The works on paper range from small etchings to large scale drawings.
The drawings create powerful two dimensional images that have a dialogue with the sculptures and offer a different way of engaging the viewer. Andre Wallace is a sculptor/artist was born in Somerset and is based in London and Somerset.
