Artist Statement
Through photography of urban details, specifically pavements, I became interested in hard, sharp edges found on roads contrasted with the durable viscosity of road paint. I decided to use the road paint as a starting point for an investigation into the potentiality of the paint and the possibilities of painting as an object. My works are constructed by pouring thermoplastic screed (road paint) through a series of punctuated boards catching the paint underneath in a variety of ways. I engage with drawings and collages of grids inspired by drain hole covers and grates and have sought to incorporate all these threads into the work potentially furthering the tension between fluidity and structure.
