Amanda Lebus

London

My work is large scale, figurative imagery on paper or canvas displayed as events and exhibitions. It addresses the echoes of our ancient histories. It shows how the timeless, the mythic and the primitive resonate today. I make pictures from the stories within all of us. My commissions and residencies balance the experience of solo studio work for me. I value bringing art and its spirit directly into the daily-ness of living. I have worked in the UK and widely abroad. My diverse commissions have the common theme that they tell aspects of the human story clear, strong or subtle. I have been artist in residence for Welfare State International, the National Trust, the Tower of London, Battersea Arts Centre, the Puppet Centre, and many other venues. The Courtauld Institute, the Science Museum, the National Maritime Museum, the Arnolfini Gallery, the Victoria and Albert Museum and numerous others have all commissioned original work, often several years in succession.
