My practice is interested in how the language used by some organizations portray autism as a disease. Before I established my practice, I engaged in several online debates with the anti-vaccination movement; who strongly believe vaccinations cause autism. Despite research proving that there is no link between vaccinations and autism, some have attempted to “cure” autism with pseudo-medicine; specifically Mineral Miracle Solution (which contains Chlorine Dioxide.) By exploring the language and stereotypes of autism, I use my own narrative as an autistic person to address this anxiety.
Currently, I am exploring 'safe spaces;' how I engage in enviroments I consider overly sensory and socially invested. This was informed by my previous residency at ARCADE/CAMPFA; which was located in one of Cardiff's main shopping centres. During the residency, I became aware that some of the public space was introducing ways to accommodate autistic people by introducing the "autism hour."
