Artist Statement

My conceptual practice is driven by queries and investigations, resulting in an eclectic output. Encompassing installation, sculpture, photos, text, video, and reproductions, my work frequently presents inconclusive narratives or relational challenges about art, culture, the verbal and visual semiotics of contemporary society and the mundanity of the everyday.

As an artist educator I work across digital media (including AR/VR), photography, video, installation, sculpture and printmaking – in community, health and education settings.

Relevant Work Experience

QClub Programme Curator

QUAD, Derby September 2017 - current

As part of the Creative Wellbeing and programming team at QUAD, Derby, I work one day a week running a BBC Children In Need funded project, QClub. I devise the creative delivery of projects and exhibition of work produced by children and young people 5-18years old who are on the autistic spectrum, have disabilities, additional support needs are looked after or bereaved. The project aims to promote the acquiring of digital skills, exploring digital technologies in a visual art context, whilst developing confidence and self esteem, and giving young people the chance to socialise in a supported environment. I recruit and train volunteers, deliver sessions, commission artists and line manage a team of freelance QClub support artists - organising CPD and ongoing training for the team, aswell as QClub session delivery. I manage budgets, report to funders, evaluate project outcomes, identify and write funding applications, liaise with external agencies, seek opportunities for public exhibition of works and market and promote activities.

Creative Mentor

The Mighty Creatives September 2020 - current

As a creative mentor for The Mighty Creatives, I work one to one with care experienced young people to engage in cultural activities and develop their creative skills.

Freelance Arts Educator

September 2006 - current

Undertaking numerous briefs, I run projects across the country within a myriad of community, health and education settings aswell as gallery, museum and festival settings across the region. I have experience working in infant schools through to Secondary Schools, Pupil Referral Units, Young Offender Institutions, The Royal School for the Deaf and other specialist educational settings across the country and I specialise in working with marginalised or vulnerable groups of children, young people and adults. As an interdisciplinary artist I deliver projects across a wide variety of art forms, from digital media (including AR/VR technologies), photography, video, installation, animation, through to sculpture, printmaking, felt making, mixed media collage and ceramics. I am an individual member of Engage, Insea and Artworks Alliance and take an active interest in projects delivered and best practise across the participatory arts sector. My participatory work has led to my being shortlisted for the Mainframe Digital/Creative Impact Award 2019. I have also delivered papers on my participatory work with children and young people at numerous conferences including The Cultural Institute, University of Leeds and The SEN Network conference at The National Gallery, London.
