EDITORIAL

For February's Artist of the Month we've selected Helena Hamilton. We talk to her about her immersive works and the meditative effects of repetition.

As part of our Models of Validation project we initiated 'Social Works?', a programme of workshops, get-togethers, writing and artist commissions. The blog posts for the Get Togethers and Artist-Led Workshops which happened in Autumn 2018 are now live.

We have more copies of our Social Works? Open publication for sale. This is the first publication from the Social Works? programme, and features 14 new commissioned pieces of writing about socially engaged practice. Order your copy here.

And finally on the Social Works? front, we have news of an exciting event taking place in April 2019. Social Works? Live will take the form of a social art festival / exchange and ‘live publication’ session at Manchester School of Art on 26 April. Save the date!

We are pleased to welcome a new member of staff to Axisweb. Lucy Wright is our new Research and Development Coordinator for the Models of Validation project.

Axis Directory member Romily Alice Walden's new exhibition My Body is the House that I Live In opens at SOHO20 in New York on 8 February 2019.

As part of the Wakefield Artwalk which took place on 30 January 2019, Axis Directory member Jo Clements exhibited her virtual reality installation 'We Will Never As Humans Be Able To See 360°' at one of our Vacant Spaces in The Ridings Shopping Centre. Jo has had a short film made about the project by Maria Ruban.

Inspired by our Artist of the Month Helena Hamilton we've selected five artists who work with sound and moving images for our regular Five2Watch feature. Featuring Bethan Hughes, Stuart Robinson, Helen Kilby-Nelson, Rhiannon Lowe and Suki Chan.

In our monthly What's On Guide we share events from our Axis Directory members that are happening in February.
