We are pleased to announce our participants for our partnership with European arts project, Destructura, are Emily Doyle & Madeleina Kay. They will be attending the 9 day forum in Tallinn, which is being held under the patronage of the European Parliament, and contributing to research examining structural barriers to opportunity and success faced by emerging artists in Europe. We are excited to follow Emily and Madeleina’s contribution to the forum, and as a partner organisation, we will support dissemination of the research findings and group projects organised by Destructura participants.

Emily Doyle

Emily AKA Old Bort is an interdisciplinary artist based in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter. Throughout 2020 the ecology of her local cemeteries has been a source of respite and inspiration, culminating in a series of stop motion videos for the Jewellery Quarter Cemeteries Project. A regular exhibitor at Digbeth’s Kaleidoscope Arts Market, Doyle is an active member of the local creative scene. She curates Old Bort’s Sticker Club a group design project that fosters co-promotion and access to affordable commercial printing for over thirty early career creatives, and Low Brow Brum, a roaming exhibition that held its first event at Tilt just weeks before the first lockdown. She’s also an illustrator and writer for Birmingham Review and Counteract magazines covering drag, music and cabaret, and a dedicated recording artist and live performer with local band The Devil and Saint Joseph.

'I’m always seeking new ways of using my broad skill set for innovation and driving positive change, and as a creative I look to continually grow my network and uplift those within it.'
