Axisweb films: Joseph Young interview
In November 2012 we invited artist Joseph Young to visit us at our office in Leeds to tell us about his work as a performance artist and his role as Vice Chair of AIR
Joseph Young is an artist and composer based in Brighton. He makes sound, installation, film and performance works for galleries, public art projects and the internet. Joseph works with everyday noise and the listening process. Much of his work tackles the nature of language, protest and politics. Joseph is also the Vice Chair of AIR (Artists' Interaction and Representation), a membership scheme for practising visual and applied artists, established by a-n, which works to improve artists' rights.
We invited Joseph to our offices in Leeds to tell us about his practice and work with AIR, and explain how he balances the two roles. We've split the interview with Joseph into two parts to make it easier for you to watch online.
You might notice this film looks a little different to some of the interviews we have filmed recently. It can be a challenge sometimes to find a place to film that is quiet, and large enough to fit all our kit. We located an empty office near our Axisweb base and made the most of the space by inviting Joseph to give us a performance. We thought a technical challenge was in order, so filmed the interview with three Canon 550D cameras, capturing Joseph's performance from multiple angles, all manned by Jules. The next step can only be 3D!
