Fr-Agile is a performance piece about Spurn Point's shifting movement since the 1850's. The performance has been documented (see Fr-Agile performance) and then developed further to become a time-based sculpture.
Throughout the research process I was reminded that neither space nor time are fixed entities. Spurn's imperceptible movement over decades exemplifies this observation.
This notion led to the idea to experiment and project extracts of the Fr-agile footage onto curved screens. The screens, composed of parallel threads stretching between wall and floor, form semi-transparent surfaces. The projection spreads through the curved screen to the wall behind the threads separating the image into a distorted and a straight version. Depending on the viewer's position the superimposition of these two projections changes.
The space between the threaded screen and wall will be accessible, so one can watch the curved projection from both sides.
Two differently shaped screens have been developed, one for the projection of footage of the whole scenery and the other one for close-ups.
The speed of the footage will be modulated according to the intensity and movement of the waves. So, both time and space will be reproduced in a nonlinear way.
