Fish soup, 2006
river-mud, river water, living organisms, light, cam-corder.
3.5 minutes
The video was produced as a result of being selected for a residency and commission to make new work in connection with Samuel Palmer and the Ancients. (KCC Arts & Libraries) It is an extension of my working practice in 2D of using river mud as the basis for texture. Here I have filmed the random movement generated by the organisms living in the mud, revealing an ancient timeless dance evocative of the primal soup from which all life forms developed. There is a cyclical element manifested in the flow of imagery which is set on a continuous loop to enhance the concept of time as something infinite. Sound by Johannes Bergmark.
