Cat Whisker Corridor (detail), 1999
70 cat whiskers were collected and installed along the length of a corridor at the Crichton Psychiatric Hospital Dumfries. Cats use their whiskers to judge the width of narrow spaces. Whiskers grow to the breadth of the cat's shoulders, becoming an essential gauge for negotiating their way through tight spaces.
