Space Place Practice Symposium
12th September
UWE Bower Ashton Campus
Space Place Practice is a research group comprised of visual artists/cross-disciplinary practitioners interested in issues of space and place and
in exploring the interstices between practice and theory via live projects. In 2011, each member of the group took possession of a museum box
courtesy of The Natural History Museum. The Museum Box Project grew out of the simple idea that these boxes become containers for specific
‘places’ attributed to individual members – where place is investigated as personally significant and therefore responded to as meaningful location.
This symposium aims to explore and expand notions of place through the complementary critical practices of making and writing and each member
will speak briefly of their engagement with the project. Our guest speaker is artist Matt White (http://www.matt-white.org/) who will join us to talk about his working process in making ‘This is the Place’ (2008).
