‘Which is your brass voice?’

BRASS:Pitch, www.brassfestival.co.uk

Start date: 06-Jul-2012
End date: 22-Jul-2012

‘Which is your brass voice?’ by Aether and Hemera is an interactive installation employing new technology and new media to create an engaging multi-sensory experience for festival audiences.
The installation invites people to discover their brass voice by speaking, singing, shouting or whispering into microphones; the Artificial Intelligence behind the artwork analyses the individual nuances of volume, pitch and the intonation of people’s voices and creates a new music composition in real time.
The sequence of notes gathered from the microphones is compared to the vast musical knowledge gathered from hundreds of brass scores to generate the note to be played next.
These brass sounds outputted through surrounding speakers are at the same time synchronised to localized coloured LED lights and light projections within the space to create a fully immersive experience for visitors.

This is one of 4 new commissions being premiered at the festival where artists and performers were invited to propose project ideas in response to the theme and context of brass music.

The brief behind BRASS:Pitch is an extension of everything that the festival has come to symbolise: accessible experiences that capture the public’s imagination, challenging preconceptions of brass music and breaking new creative ground through unique artistic collaborations and the innovative use of new technology and new media.
