Interventions is the first of several 62 Group exhibitions to be held in 2012. 2012 is a big year for the Group as it is the Group's 50th Anniversary (1962-2012). This exhibition of new work displays the Group's diversity of practice as it highlights the innovative and personal ways in which the exhibiting artists have responded to Platt Hall and its collection.
I'm showing Pastimes - Platt Hall houses one of the largest button collections in the UK. “Pastimes”, is a celebration of buttons. The Georgian building, home to a family of wealthy textile merchants, was built in 1746 to replace a timbered black and white building. Draughts was very popular in Georgian times. Was draughts a favourite pastime in Platt Hall?
