'ExtraOrdinary' exhibition of contemporary, recycled jewellery, The Bowes Museum

'ExtraOrdinary' was a touring showcase exhibition of recycled jewellery made by 12 diverse contemporary artists and designers from all over the UK and Ireland. The work included ranged from highly conceptual pieces by Hans Stofer and Francoise Dupré who constructed 'adornments' from washing up brushes, pearls and bandages, to commercial jewellery designers such as Grainne Morton and Katie Clarke who use more traditional methods combined with found objects like feathers. Skillful craftswomen Angela O Kelly and Sarah Crawford demonstrated how ordinary materials such as newspaper and toothbrushes could be reassembled as suprisingly beautiful and precious pieces of jewellery. The exhibition was toured to 5 Art Schools in the North East region as well as the Bowes Museum in Barnard Castle. Designer-maker David Arnold was commissioned to create the showcases for the work.

The tour was accompanied by a series of workshops that were presented by participant artists at each of the venues.
