Lucy Bannister is an artist-curator based in London. She has worked for a number of years on projects which bring site and context responsive art works into the daily life of the city.
Since graduating from Glasgow School of Art in 2000 she has developed a number of innovative independent projects. She co-founded the international art organisation EmergeD with Amy Sales in 2002, developing the press, marketing and co-curating projects in Glasgow. On moving to Leeds in 2003 she brought a branch of EmergeD to the city, intiating a major project called 'Shift' in the Merrion Market. Between 2004 and 2007 she spear-headed the Leeds based artist group Monitor, taking a lead role in curating the 'Tunes In...' evenings of artists' film, music and performance. Recently she co-curated 42 New Briggate Gallery in Leeds, a pioneering new contemporary visual art gallery, with Yvonne Carmichael; programming exhibitions which drew on themes from Opera North's productions.
She has lectured in collaborative strategies and professional practice at Leeds College of Art and Design and has managed a diverse range of art projects including The Sorrell Foundation’s Young Design Programme, Tonic’s literature in hospitals project, ‘Food for Thought’ and Perambulator, New Work Yorkshire's Live Art platform event.
She was editor of the Axis Webzine from 2008 - 12, developing interaction and participation with the website and commissioning new content. She worked on the award winning Art in Yorkshire- Supported by Tate website and mobile app project as Digital Content Co-ordinator. She is now Assistant Editor (Digital Media) at the National Gallery.
