Concepts
My interest is in expressing the beauty and mysterious qualities within landscape -colour, light and pattern. Expression is fairly loose and non literal, moving more towards abstraction.

Artist Statement

Concepts My interest is in expressing the beauty and mysterious qualities within landscape -colour, light and pattern. Expression is fairly loose and non literal, moving more towards abstraction. Influences Earliest-Samuel Palmer's sepia ink drawings; Nash, Lanyon, Hitchens - but for colour, Matisse and Bonnard and for colour and texture - John Walker. Influences also include being a former professional theatre designer. Career path Initial training in Fashion Design at Manchester Polytechnic (1968-72 Dip AD 2/1) included work placement at RSC and decision to pursue a career in Theatre Design (Bristol Old Vic Theatre School 1972-73). Worked as set and costume designer until 1986 (this included BBC TV experience). From 1983-86 Part-time course in Ceramics at Goldsmiths College, University of London. 1986 move to York working in exhibition design, specialising in costume research. In 1994 studio set up in York producing collagraph prints and paintings.
