Artist statement
To discover how medicines work in a single cell, the artist Jo Berry (JB) will participate in Practical research activities, using fluorescence microscopy to study Pharmacology of drugs and
Receptors in living cells, gaining insight into the scientific process and methods for using Fluorescence imaging to measure drug-receptor interactions and signalling in the Co-localisation of cells. The aim is to find new ways to represent the activity of cells from a drug perspective, generating digital design drawing ideas which will be used to create artwork and animations for an ambitious citywide exhibition in Derby in 2011.
Jo Berry (JB) is fascinated by amalgamations of different objects which make new objects, a process we call hybridisation. She produces complex layered digital drawings that are developed and realised as Light Installations, Vinyl Designs, Sculpture & Animations’ for exhibition and public art commissions. JB is inspired by dynamic interactions that occur in cells when a drug is applied, and she aims to produce new works that celebrate the complexity of cell behaviour.
