Artist statement
ConceptsI am interested in marginal states and areas, boundaries and interfaces, most of my work is landscape derived. One series of paintings was made following the dawn throughout the year.
Processes and techniquesI work in layers starting with broad flat areas then beginning to work into it with my hands to build up a rich surface, sometimes scraping back parts then working on top of others until the piece reflects the initial emotional charge of thought and place.
InfluencesLandscape, history, environmental concerns and science. I am influenced by science writers like James Lovelock, James Gleick and Fritof Capra.
Career pathBA Hons at Sheffield, residency with St Marys CP School, Royston to produce large mural involving whole school community. Took part in mentoring scheme, East England Arts. Now hoping to develop proposal to make work investigating woods around Chesterfield.
