Artist statement
Over the last 2 years, supported by the Arts Council, I have been developing a new body of work. New Grounds has allowed me the freedom to explore new concepts and discover a more personal creative identity.
I have discovered printmaking as a basis to explore marks and surface. There is a structural connection with the devore work I am so comfortable with, yet the outcomes offer a more sophisticated palette. Connections with stitch, cloth and machine create elegant forms and bold marks to entice the viewer. are informed by collagraphic printing processes and the repetition of stitch offer direction through the work. Both are rhythmical in production and present an intriguing discovery.
New pieces explore our varied points of view - the differences in all of us.
Until now I have been predominantly known for my devore work, yet the last two years have been a time of reflection and evaluation, considering my practice and its position within a commercial and creative environment. Exploring new practical processes has offered breath to my experimentations and time to develop new arenas of thought. As this process resolves itself, I seek review and public exposure.
