Artist statement
I am interested in illusion, artifice and the manipulation of reality and perception primarily where recent history, memory and power collide. My work is process based, often taking the form of sculptural assemblages or installations that can easily be re-arranged and re-used to explore differing perspectives, while questioning how we ascribe meaning onto objects and images.
The restaging of images embodies the theatricality through which we view the past, and also provides a context to how we exist in the present. The objects act as stand-ins or props for absent actors, thier implied theatricality alludes to both the artifice of performance, art and imagery, and the artifice contained in creating history after the event.
