Artist statement

Jenny Steele is an artist, researcher, and lecturer, whose visual practice explores the relationships between our occupation of digital space and physical space, their corresponding architectures, and our suggested movement within these spaces. Jenny predominantly works in the mediums of printmaking, textiles, drawing and installation - regularly using physical, slow processes to rephysicalise the digital, and 'do technology backwards'.

Jenny recently undertook a residency and research project, 'Redirection and Network Timeout' at the 501 Artspace, Chongqing, China, which was in association with the Chinese Arts Centre, and funded by Grants for the Arts, Arts Council England. The project explored inhabitation of digital and physical spaces in the PRC, particularly focusing on issues of censorship and control, and how that relates to historical physical architecture and town planning. Jenny Steele is graduate of Goldsmiths College (MFA, 2007, PGDip, 2006), Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design (2002, BA Hons First Class) and UAL (2009, PG Cert.Ed). Jenny is currently based between Manchester and London, and is a studio artist at Rogue Studios, Manchester.
