Artist statement
b.1980, United Kingdom
Matt James Smith is an artist based in Newcastle upon Tyne. His work is often an attempt to excavate the subjective history of a particular landscape or place through the use of lens-based media. Recent research has been centered around ideas of the 'unpresentable' (the sublime, the uncanny, the traumatic) in relation to the industrial landscape.
