Artist statement
My ongoing work reflects my evolving practice working across various media and contexts through installation, three dimensional form and site-specific works. A broad materials based background and artistic vocabulary which embraces photography, film and soundworks form the basis of my hybrid practice.
Current works address the interplay between person and place, how it is understood, analysed, or indeed, constructed through art making, addressing the importance of environment in everyday experience.
My work continues my interest in people and spaces, creating artworks which propose dialogues between object/artifact, person and place. The subtle interplay between person and place and the ways in which we may invigorate our encounters with everyday environments crystallized as an area of concern through my work in the health and wellbeing sectors and I work independently and collaboratively in a variety of contexts, both studio based and through longer term public facing projects.
Research themes explore time, change and continuity, influenced by the technological, social & political dimensions that affect person & place. Artworks range from highly decorative objects, created intuitively and rooted in craft practice, to research led investigative projects. Works respond to the affective potentials of space using a range of media to critically interrogate a set of situations and conditions in time and place: in this area of physical and psychological exchange art–making is implicit in sense–making through a convergence of subject, site, context and time.
