Artist statement

I have a fascination with the suburban home, the neatly cut grass, and the perfectly polished car on the driveway. This may have developed through my own upbringing or it may come from the dream of living in a place like that. I like to paint the most ordinary places, homes which I can imagine myself living inside, wondering if the people that are inside are as happy as I imagine them to be.

My sometimes optimistic blue skys and reminiscing images of old caravans, old holidays or the odd lighthouse, is when I like to bring myself back to places which represent fun times. A snap shot of when that constant thought of the future was never important and instead you just lived in the moment of that particular day.

I understand that sometimes the lack of human presence can result in an eerie emptiness or loneliness within my work, but then in contrast I like to provide evidence of human nesting, this could be as simple as the curtains being freshly open or a scribble of graffiti on the wall.
