Artist statement
I create single and multi panel architectural structures for public and private spaces, exploring the themes of energy and interaction. Typically artworks aim to capture the rich character of an individual or environment within a dynamic simplicity of form. A playful manipulation of repeated elements encourages a physical engagement with the work itself, creating a sense of discovery. While materials used are wide ranging, stainless steel, glass and oak have featured much in my most recent work, reflecting it’s architectural character.
In 2011 I launched the company 'Dazzle House', designing personalized laser engraved artworks for the home and garden. The engraving creates a rich surface design reflecting the unique character of the individual. This rich detail contrasts the simple, balanced single and multi-panel forms that characterize my work.
My method of approach has developed out of a very community focused practice, working as a facilitator as well as a creative practitioner. I aim to encourage engagement, often through my working process as well as through the structure and design of each artwork. Collaboration therefore remains an important aspect of my work, involving fabricators and design professionals as well as the wider community.
