EN ROUTE: POLAND AND WALES

En Route is an exhibition of eight new paintings made specifically for installation at Galerie Otwarta Pracownia. The paintings were made between mid-January and the end of March consolidating thought and practice in a very short period of time.
Following a major award for individual production from the Arts Council of Wales the exhibition in Krakow became a reality, redefining the application of my studio art practice within a global cultural context: stating categorically the need for the physical movement of artwork across regions. The painting itself is the vehicle for dialogue and its essential application to contemporary art is exactly the reason for its production in the first place: the reality of the painted surface cannot be substituted by any other means.
The cultural context of where and how my paintings are made and exhibited is fundamental to my process. En Route creates a new cultural link between Wales and Poland; the paintings will return to Wales for an exhibition with artist members of Otwarta Pracownia at Oriel Davies Gallery in Newtown 2007.
