The Last Picture Show : The Night of The Hunter, 2008

gallery12

Gallery12 opened in October 2006 with its first exhibition ‘Morphenia’ by Bill Jackson. It seems only appropriate to close its doors for the last time with ‘The Last Picture Show’, an exhibition of Jackson’s latest photographs from his ‘Night Hawks’ series. These works explore Jackson’s recent preoccupation with photographing at night along the Suffolk coast using nothing other than the available light and exposures taking up to twenty minutes. The result is an eerie world which only the lens of the camera sees. As the images have been taken in virtual darkness, only intuition counts where normal picture taking is not possible. This exhibition will also include recent day time works taken at Orfordness, an abandoned munitions testing site in Suffolk.
