Zoe Childerley

Artist, Film-maker, Lecturer / academic, Researcher, Community worker

I am a British artist with an MA in Photography and a strong record in community projects. I am currently a Lecturer at Kingston University and I have been working as an artist using photography and mixed media for over 10 years. I have exhibited nationally and internationally and undertaken numerous commissions and residencies, working in the Caribbean, the United States, the Middle East, South East Asia and across the UK. My work explores new environments, is developed by interaction with different communities, reflecting a vision of the world concerned with identity, belonging and our relationship to the land and its stories.

My practice has its foundations in photography, from social documentary and portraiture to more constructed imagery. I am also bring drawing, audio and moving image into my work and am interested in how the different media open up new ways to express ideas, helping the projects to evolve. From drawing with light, using the most rudimentary equipment, a camera obscura in Wales to hearing the voices that tell the stories I followed to make the image map in Colorado, I am looking to push the boundaries of the intertwining media.
