The square is a boarded 'stage' featuring a 7.5m curtain sculpture in stainless steel and a tapering bench as part of the overall design. The square is bounded by a new HQ for BBC North and two theatres.

The design is intended to draw in passers-by while protecting the square from the busy dual carriageway which forms its fourth side.
