The artwork is a semi permanent drawing of a curled up and shrunken beech leaf sketched onto the smooth surface of a treetrunk. The drawing was embossed on the tree in Black Wood ,at the foot of the summit of Dent on the edge of the Lake District in West Cumbria.I was attracted to the distinctive sculptural form of the leaf and spent four hours drawing the form using compressed charcoal and pencil to capture the form. I view the tree as an alternative canvas and the woodland as a gallery.A popular footpath runs next to the woodland and I intend to create further drawings on trees parallel to the path for walkers to view en route.
