The temporary installation was created at St Bees beach in West Cumbria in October 2016.I wanted to create an artwork in response to the shocking amount of plastic waste deposited on the tideline and found a suitable boulder on which to emboss. The intention was to create an image overloaded with colour in stark contrast to the natural background in order to highlight the sheer amount of waste washed up on the beach. The boulder was a beautiful form in itself and I smothered it with all the plastic waste I could find, adding piece by piece ,assembled like a jigsaw. The artwork resembled some giant unworldly scale form or creature and although I was appalled at the plastic waste I was equally seduced by the glossy colours. The installation took 4/5 hours to create and prompted interesting and informative dialogue with passers by.
