"Narrow Gauge Stacks".
2016The temporary site specific installation was created at South Beach,in Whitehaven, West Cumbria in April 2016.The beach has restricted access as it is a dangerous area due to the presence of an old unstable slag bank which is prone to collapse during stormy weather. The slag bank is a result of previous activity from an old colliery which faced the beach and used to dump waste materials directly onto the shoreline. As a result, the beach has many interesting features such as old narrow gauge railway lines and I used one that I found on the beach to create the installation.I turned the line into shape and balanced rows of carefully stacked pebbles onto the line over the course of four hours.
